Madeline (‘Maddy’) Van Husen, MSW, MPH, LCSWA
Background
Maddy (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate (LCSWA) and a Therapist in CAS’ Psychotherapy Fellowship Program, training to become a specialist in the field of eating disorders. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Boston College and dual Masters of Social Work and Public Health degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Maddy has experience working with children, teens, and adults. Her research and clinical work has focused on grief, anxiety, eating disorders, childhood illness, family and caregiver support, pediatric and palliative care, and global mental health. She is passionate about working with people going through life transitions and the connection between food and interpersonal relationships. Maddy is also interested in understanding and helping to heal the impacts of war and conflict on child and adolescent mental health.
Philosophy
Maddy believes in working with people to help them develop a tool belt of skills to navigate life’s ups and downs. She uses a psychodynamic approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and play therapy. Maddy is committed to creating an anti-racist, affirming, and safe environment to ensure that everyone has the freedom to thrive.
Joy
Maddy finds joy in sharing meals with friends, talking to her sister on the phone, and snuggling with her puppy, Freddie.
