Gabriela (‘Gabi’) Dwyer
Gabriela (‘Gabi’) Dwyer, MSW, LCSWA
Background
Gabi (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate (LCSWA) and a Therapist in CAS’ Psychotherapy Fellowship Program, training to become a specialist in the field of eating disorders. She received her Bachelor’s degree from UNC Wilmington and her Master of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill. Gabi enjoys working with children, teens and adults of all ages. Her work has focused on the treatment of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, substance use, PTSD, neurodivergence, and domestic violence. Gabi also has a strong passion for working with queer and trans people of color (QTPOC) navigating gender identity and sexual orientation exploration.
Philosophy
Gabi has a feminist-relational and trauma-informed perspective in her work and uses a mixture of modalities. In practice, she incorporates aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), somatic-based approaches, and narrative therapy. She uses a person-centered approach backed by an anti-racist and anti-ableist lens to ensure all clients feel seen, heard, and empowered. She believes the therapeutic relationship between the client and clinician is an essential part of the therapeutic journey and utilizes that relationship to help clients meet their goals.
Joy
Gabi enjoys visiting thrift stores, hanging out with her cat (Rigby), collecting shells at the beach, and discovering local live music.
