Skylar McGhee

Skylar McGhee, MS, LCMHCA

Background

Skylar (she/her) is a licensed clinical mental health counselor associate (LCMHCA) who has experience working with clients ages 13+ experiencing eating disorders, depression, anxiety, PTSD, life transitions, and OCD. Skylar received her bachelor’s degree in visual art at Appalachian State University and was a high school art teacher for 4 years before returning to complete her graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Philosophy

Skylar takes an eclectic approach to counseling, utilizing interventions from Internal Family Systems, somatic therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and others while seeing clients through a feminist, person-centered lens. Skylar believes that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for growth and change to take place – prioritizing emotional safety, validation, and authenticity as the cornerstones of the work she does alongside her clients. Skylar views psychotherapy not only as a way to address symptoms, but as a gateway to more joy, wholeness, and pleasure in our lives.

Joy

Skylar finds joy hunting for vintage clothing, cooking, snuggling her dogs, hosting dinner parties, long drives with good music, and reading!

Skylar sees clients in our Winston-Salem office and by Telehealth.
